A New Era of Electric Freedom
Honda has officially entered the electric motorcycle era with the global debut of the Honda WN7, unveiled at the EICMA 2025 show in Milan, Italy.
The WN7 is Honda’s first-ever full electric motorcycle, designed under the new “FUN” electric motorcycle category and developed with the concept “Be the Wind” — expressing the pure joy of gliding through the air with the quiet smoothness only an EV can deliver.
Riders can now experience the natural sounds of their surroundings — the rustle of leaves or street chatter — without the noise of a combustion engine, while still enjoying instant torque and thrilling acceleration.
⚙️ Key Highlights of the Honda WN7
1️⃣ Development Concept — “Be the Wind”
Honda engineers designed the WN7 to combine strong torque, agile handling, and refined silence, delivering a liberating riding sensation. It brings a new emotional dimension to electric performance, blending environmental consciousness with riding excitement.
2️⃣ Design Philosophy
The WN7’s design emphasizes refined simplicity and seamless function. Surfaces where the rider makes contact are smooth and clean, while the overall silhouette is bold and futuristic.
It also debuts a signature horizontal LED light bar, which will serve as the new global design identity for Honda’s upcoming electric motorcycles.
A special black-and-gold color theme distinguishes the WN7, signaling a new era for Honda’s electric lineup.
🧱 Frameless Chassis for Dynamic Handling
Breaking from convention, the Honda WN7 uses a frameless aluminum chassis, where the centrally positioned battery case doubles as a structural frame component.
The head pipe (for steering) and pivot bracket (for rear suspension) are directly connected to the power unit — eliminating the need for a traditional frame.
This structure improves:
- Mass centralization
- Weight reduction
- Agility and balance
As a result, the WN7 achieves compact proportions and stable handling at both low and high speeds.
⚡ Electric Motor & Powertrain
The WN7 is powered by a newly developed water-cooled electric motor with an integrated inverter, producing performance equivalent to a 600 cc motorcycle.
Performance Figures:
- Maximum Power: 50 kW
- Maximum Torque: 100 Nm
- Transmission: Belt-drive system for smooth, silent operation
- Acceleration: Immediate torque delivery for both city and highway riding
This setup ensures both powerful take-offs and refined cruising, embodying the quiet power of electric mobility.
🔋 Battery, Range & Charging
The WN7 features a 9.3 kWh fixed lithium-ion battery, supporting multiple charging options:
- Fast Charging (CCS2): 20% → 80% in approx. 30 minutes
- Normal Charging (Type 2): Full charge (0–100%) in under 2.4 hours*
- Range: Up to 140 km (WMTC mode)
*Charging time may vary with temperature and power supply conditions.
This dual-standard charging compatibility allows riders to use both public DC fast chargers and home AC chargers, ensuring flexibility for daily commuting or touring.
🌀 Regenerative Braking & Smart Controls
Honda brings car-like technology to two wheels with advanced regenerative braking and a Deceleration Selector on the left handlebar.
These allow riders to choose their preferred braking feel — from strong regen to a smooth, gliding motion.
A Walking Speed Mode is also included, letting riders move the motorcycle forward or backward at slow speeds for easy parking and maneuvering in tight spaces.
🏭 Production & Global Rollout
The Honda WN7 will be produced at the Kumamoto Factory in Japan — Honda’s global motorcycle hub.
The company will introduce the WN7 sequentially across global markets, prioritizing regions where EV adoption is accelerating.
This launch marks the beginning of Honda’s electrification roadmap, which aims to roll out 10+ electric motorcycles globally by 2030 as part of its carbon neutrality goal for 2040.
💬 Official Statement
A Honda spokesperson said:
“The Honda WN7 redefines freedom for the next generation of riders. It embodies the sensation of riding like the wind — clean, powerful, and connected to the environment. This is the future of two-wheeled fun.”
🌱 The Future of Honda Electric Mobility
With the WN7, Honda is advancing its global strategy to:
- Achieve carbon neutrality by 2040
- Expand electric charging networks
- Develop swappable battery systems under the Mobile Power Pack e: initiative
The company aims to bring its EV motorcycles to Asia, Europe, and North America within the next few years.
