As the 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship draws closer, BMW Motorrad Motorsport has completed an intensive double test session to fine-tune the new BMW M 1000 RR for the upcoming season. The ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team began testing last week at Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, with Michael van der Mark (NED). This week, the team continued at Portimão, Portugal, where reigning World Champion Toprak Razgatlioglu (TUR) joined after skipping Jerez due to a finger injury.
These tests were crucial for adapting to the latest FIM regulations, effective from January 23, 2025, which ban BMW’s Super-Concession frame used last season. Additionally, new fuel flow limits of 47 kg/h have forced teams to adjust their race strategies for improved efficiency. Despite facing challenging weather conditions and limited dry track time, BMW took significant steps forward in refining the M 1000 RR’s setup.
Testing Highlights: Overcoming Challenges and Building Momentum
BMW’s double test presented both technical and physical challenges. Razgatlioglu, still recovering from a broken finger, pushed through the discomfort to clock competitive lap times, proving his determination to defend his title. Meanwhile, van der Mark focused on regaining his race rhythm after his Jerez crash.
The BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Test Team was also actively involved in both sessions, with experienced test riders Sylvain Guintoli (FRA) and Markus Reiterberger (GER) conducting crucial development work on the new machine. Their feedback helped optimize settings, evaluate new components, and ensure that the bike is fully compliant with the 2025 regulations.
The collaboration between BMW’s race and test teams was key in refining the bike’s performance in varying conditions, including rain, wind, and brief dry track windows. This synergy will play a vital role as the team heads into the final pre-season preparations.
BMW Prepares for a Strong Start at Phillip Island
With the WorldSBK season opener scheduled from February 21-23 at Phillip Island, Australia, BMW Motorrad Motorsport is feeling confident. Before the first race, the team will conduct a final two-day test at the Australian circuit to finalize the bike’s setup.
Despite a challenging winter of testing, BMW’s race and test teams have laid a solid foundation for a competitive 2025 campaign. The final pre-season test in Australia will allow the team to make last-minute refinements before the battle for the championship begins.
Stay tuned as BMW Motorrad WorldSBK prepares to hit the track for an action-packed 2025 season!
